Seasonal fruits and vegetables are less harmful to the environment than varieties imported from countries outside Europe, transported by plane, or grown in a heated greenhouse.

Vegetables you choose are most sustainable if they come from the Netherlands (same country that you buy them in) from the field or from a greenhouse that does not need much heating. Buying vegetables from Europe is often a sustainable choice as well, because it decreases the chance that the product comes from a heated greenhouse.

The packaging or the store should provide you with information about where the product is from.

In March there is a lot of winter vegetables in season. The fruits available are those mostly collected in previous months and stored, or varieties that are collected especially late.
